JACKIE CHAN INSPIRES CHARITY IN THE HEARTS OF THE YOUNG
by Debi Younce
Many say the future lies within our children. I believe this is true. When a child is taught to be generous and think of others, a wonderful loving adult can be the result. I have the joy of watching this happen right in my own family.
My grandson Tyler sent Jackie Chan a dime to help the poor children and it made an impact on Jackie that has been seen over and over again. This little boy’s innocent donation was one of greater value that the amount of money it represented.
To prove again how loving children can be, I need to tell all that Tyler's older sister Khalie was involved through her school in a program to raise money for The American Heart Association. She raised US $50 dollars by jumping rope and was the highest fundraiser in her class. This is a wonderful achievement for a 6 year old.
Being a huge fan of Jackie, I have been involved with my grandchildren’s own love of the superstar through his cartoons and other movies that they love so much. We all decided to be part of the Birthday Card Contest and had a great day making our cards. We all worked hard on our cards and were thrilled even more to include donations to Jackie Chan’s charities. In fact the day I told my little granddaughter I had sent the cards and drawings for the Build a School for a Dollar fundraising she asked me instantly if I remembered to put her money in the birthday card. This meant more to her than anything else.
I waited with anticipation to see if my card would be one of the winners. Then to my joy and surprise when the winners were announced I stared and stared at my darling granddaughter’s card. She was a winner in the 12 and below age group. Her butterfly and roses and even more the colorful glitter glue she used inside of her card charmed the judges. I realized how thrilled she would be and have waited on pins and needles till her prize arrived.
It just happened the timing was great as her seventh birthday party was held on Sunday April 29th. Here is Khalie proudly wearing her beautiful t-shirt, and holding a darling stuffed animal from the JC Group. They even included an adorable goose for her brother Tyler. The children are thrilled and I am so grateful to see this wonderful group of people working so hard to mentor children the world over. You all have my gratitude and respect.
Sincerely,
